Research Topics in Machine Learning - Slides and other stuff

Sources

The recommended text for this course is "Machine Learning", by Tom Mitchell, Mc Graw Hill, 1997. The book is simply referred to as Mitchell or Mitchell (1997) in the lecture slides. Please visit the book's web site for further information. Additional reading will consist of recent and/or seminal publications (around 30 papers/articles/book extracts) that will either be distributed as handouts in class or will be cited for you to photocopy from the library yourselves.

Note the following: The approximate probability that a randomly chosen topic in the course

  1. is discussed in Mitchell's book = 0.5
  2. is discussed in one of the publications you are given or pointed at = 0.42
  3. is discussed mainly in the lecture slides = 0.08
